Schelling’s works: in the public domain since 1925
Friedrich Wilhelm Joseph von Schelling died on August 20, 1854. Under § 64 of the German Copyright Act (UrhG), copyright expires 70 years after the author’s death; his texts are therefore in the public domain.
The textual basis
The basis is the edition F. W. J. von Schellings sämmtliche Werke (Stuttgart und Augsburg: Cotta, 1856–1861), edited by his son K. F. A. Schelling, 14 volumes in two divisions (Abtheilungen). The editor K. F. A. Schelling died in 1863; the edition as a whole is therefore in the public domain, including his prefaces and notes.
The text of this edition is read from the printed pages. The sources are the digitized copies of the Bavarian State Library (Munich and Coburg copies; rights statement NoC-NC: no copyright, non-commercial use requested). The scans themselves are not reproduced.
Reuse
The edition’s own contributions (transcription, markup, tables of contents, TEI files) are licensed under CC BY 4.0. Attribution: Giuliano Infantino, Digital Schelling Edition, schellingedition.com. Schelling’s text and the editor’s additions are in the public domain; no rights are claimed in them.
